Witch's Familiar Autumnal Bear

Spooky season is not so spooky for this Autumnal bear. Black cats and pumpkins, watchful ravens and witches' brooms—everything associated with the time of year where the weather changes and the leaves fall are what brings this bear the most comfort. He doesn't seem too concerned with where the witch has wandered of to, though her broom was left to lean on this rustic fence. Perhaps she's disguised herself as the cat, or the raven the cat is eying in the tree.

These pieces are all handmade - the fence was constructed from foraged twigs and sticks in my own backyard—as was the broom. The cat, raven and pumpkins were all sculpted from air dry clay and then painted by hand, the leaves were cut from a variety of wool felt colors. The bear itself was handsewn using heirloom quality wool blend felts, and is stuffed with 100% Canadian sourced wool, meaning he will not lose his shape over time.

This bear is not intended for use as a toy as the pieces can be delicate. It would be happiest on a shelf or desktop, perhaps with a window nearby to gaze through.

My soft sculptures are designed and handsewn in the great Canadian countryside, where nature and its inhabitants are prevalent. I pull much of my inspiration from the woods where I grew up, fallen trees, blankets of moss and the whimsical quality of wild mushrooms.
